Mercy Health Saint Mary's8 Main unit is an acuity adaptable/mixed acuity unit focusing on cardiac: chest pain, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, pacemakers; Renal: hemodialysis, chronic and acute renal failure; Renal Transplant: both living and deceased donor transplants, transplant rejection; Vascular Surgery: aortic aneurysm repair, amputations, peripheral vascular disease; COPD, diabetes, pneumonia, substance abuse and alcohol withdrawal. The average length of stay is 3-4 days. PCAs have patient ratio of 8-12 patients. This is a33 bedunit.
Position Summary:

Patient Care Assistant, PCA works in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care under the direction of a RN. A Patient Care Assistant, PCA is expected to assist the patient in maintaining good hygiene, activities of daily living and to support quality of patient care.

What Patient Care Assistant, PCAwill do:

• Respond to patient call lights for assistance or by rounding
• Obtaining vital signs from patient
• Provide or assist patients with personal hygiene including showers, oral hygiene and dressing/undressing
• Transports patients as needed for procedures, transfers or discharge
• Maintains a clean and uncluttered environment in patient rooms

What Patient Care Assistant, PCAwill need:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, 6 months experience as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician in an acute care setting, completion of 1 clinical semester in nursing school, or completion of the MHSM PCA training program upon hire.
• BCLS certificationobtained within one week of hire.
• Well developedcommunication skills, both written and oral
• Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing divers perspectives
• Articulates and demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of the organization
