The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a Benefit and Payroll Administrator to join our Human Resources team.

The Benefit and Payroll Administrator reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the HR Manager, Compensation and Benefit. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the leaders. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Purpose:

    As a Benefit and Payroll Administrator, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of employee benefits administration and payroll processing. You will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely delivery of benefits and compensation to employees while adhering to relevant regulations and company policies. Your attention to detail and knowledge of payroll and benefits processes will contribute to the overall satisfaction and well-being of employees.

Essential Duties

1. Benefits Administration:

    Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.Assist employees with benefit enrollment, changes, and inquiries.Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and ERISA.Coordinate with benefit providers and vendors to resolve issues and ensure smooth administration.

2. Payroll Processing:

    Process payroll accurately and in a timely manner using payroll software.Verify timesheets, deductions, and other payroll-related data for accuracy.Calculate and process adjustments, bonuses, and commissions as necessary.Generate payroll reports and reconcile payroll transactions.Will develop a working knowledge of international, federal, state and local payroll tax administration

3. Data Management:

    Maintain employee records and ensure data integrity in payroll and HRIS systems.Update employee information, including changes in salary, benefits, and tax withholdings.Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to management and regulatory agencies.

4. Compliance and Reporting:

    Stay informed about federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to payroll and benefits.Ensure compliance with tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and other statutory requirements.
    Prepare and file payroll tax returns and other regulatory reports as needed.

5. Employee Communication:

    Communicate payroll and benefits information to employees effectively.Provide guidance and assistance to employees regarding payroll deductions, tax forms, and benefit options.Respond to employee inquiries and resolve issues related to payroll and benefits promptly.

6. Documentation and Recordkeeping:

    Maintain accurate records of payroll transactions, benefits enrollment, and employee communications.Prepare and distribute employee documents, such as pay stubs, W-2 forms, and benefit summaries.Ensure compliance with record retention requirements and data privacy regulations.

Starting Salary: $50,000 $55,000

    8:30 am - 5:00 pm (7.5 hours/day with some evening and weekends to meet needs of department may be required

Working Conditions

    The functions of this position are usually performed sitting, but may involve some amount of time walking. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, or carrying may be required. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard involve extensive wrist and hand movements. Much contact with employees and the general public. The normal work schedule is 37.5 hours per week.

Oral or Written Requirements

    Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions. Must have good teamwork skills. Excellent English-language oral skills for effective communication in telephone and interoffice contacts. Excellent English-language reading and writing skills for responding accurately to inquiries and drafting correspondence. Good mathematical skills necessary

Required Qualifications:

    Previous experience in payroll processing and benefits administration.Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS systems.Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and benefits programs.Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Minimum Education:

    An Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business or high school diploma plus coursework in accounting and computer skills training.
