Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project development tasks to include any of the following: writing and/or verifying specifications, maintaining process documentation, testing and validating processes, equipment, and/or tooling
• Assists in creating concepts, designs, or documents for new processes
• Designs, procures, or directs fabrication of simple tooling and fixtures
• Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments
• Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results
• Trains mechanics on new processes and procedures
• Identifies areas for improvement, suggests solutions, and assists in implementation
• Other projects as assigned

Projects the intern will work on:

• Design and execute a cost saving project centered on maintenance processes. Looking at material flow, car flow, and mechanic's processes.
• Identify best practices and introduce systemic improvements

Internship Goals:

• Drive projects to completion to provide value along with a rich learning experience
• Develop a basic understanding of the railcar maintenance and seek opportunities to improve the process
• Work with employees in a hands-on environment to gain experience and develop communication skills

Qualifications:

• Major(s): Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
• Year in school: completed at least 2 years at an accredited college/university
• Minimum GPA : 3.0

Preferred Qualities Possessed by Candidate:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and Auto-CAD or Solidworks
• Lean or Continuous Improvement mindset
• Strong communication skills and mechanical aptitude
• Detail-oriented
