We are currently seeking applications to fill the following job opening at Celgard where we develop and manufacture membrane battery separators that are critical components used in lithium-ion batteries for electric drive vehicles (EDVs) and energy storage systems (ESS).

Job Description:

Job Duties:

  • Development of coating formulations for lithium ion battery separators
  • Develop ceramic based aqueous formulation - polymeric binders, additives, and inorganic filler
  • Design and synthesize new binder and additive materials
  • Operate Lab-pilot coater for coating development
  • Performance analysis of materials and coated products
  • Propose new concept for next generation coating technology
  • Provide technical support to key customers.

Qualifications:
  • Master's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Materials Science required
  • PhD degree preferred in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Materials Science
  • Minimum 4 years' of product development in the area of formulation and coating development based on Master's or PhD education.
  • Hands-on experience in water and/or solvent based slurry development for thin-layer ceramic coating application
  • Familiarity with formulation additives (Surfactant and dispersant)
  • Strong technical background in polymer design and synthesis
  • Good understanding of the structure-property-relationship and root cause analysis
  • Experience with rheology modification
  • Project Management experience
  • Can execute research project with minor instruction, as well as with cross-functional teams.
  • Good team member and excellent inter-person skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan experiments based on statistical methodology (designs of experiments) is preferred.
  • Previous Lithium ion battery experience is a plus
