Job Description:
Under limited supervision, this position provides traffic engineering guidance to Districts 5, 6, 7, and 8. Develop and/or review traffic control plans for highway construction, maintenance activities, and detours. Respond to field inquiries regarding signing, pavement markings, permit applications, and crash data. Perform field measurements for sight distance, ball bank horizontal curves, and collect traffic data, including MioVision. Conduct traffic studies, field surveys, research MUTCD and design policies, and analyze data for vehicle speed, traffic signals, pedestrian safety, parking, and other traffic operations studies. Assist in the development of alternate highway routing and traffic control plans for incident management response, and emergency railroad/highway at grade crossing closures. Coordinate with Traffic Engineering Division to provide District guidance regarding design policies, procedures, and standards. Manage Highway Traffic Data Collector staff. Participate in public information meetings and outreach efforts with local communities. Develop and present information/training internally and externally. Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay rate of $39.302 per hour commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.

REQUIREMENTS:

Professional Engineer II: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and one year of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.

PREFERRED: Supervisory experience that includes working with performance and disciplinary issues and the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Two years of experience in traffic control fieldwork, traffic analysis and safety, highway design and/or construction; or a combination thereof. Engineering experience in Highway/Bridge Construction and/or Roadway Design, Bridge Design, or Materials Engineering experience.

OTHER:Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program (or evaluated by NCEES as equivalent). Requires a valid driver's license. Occasional out of town travel and working extended hours to deliver assignments. Position to be located in one of the four District's headquarters: Ainsworth, Gering, McCook, or North Platte.

Skill in written and oral communications, skill in mathematics and engineering problem-solving related to heavy highway construction. Ability to read, interpret, and apply plans and related specifications. Ability to act in a professional manner in work and public situations. Ability to effectively connect and work with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, landowners, and interested public. Ability to develop necessary professional relationships in order to be effective. Skill in organization and record keeping. Ability to manage multiple tasks and information effectively and accurately with attention to detail. Ability to work outdoors in differing weather conditions typical of highway worksites. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, climb, bend, stoop, walk long distances and work long hours, possibly weekends, in outdoor temperature extremes. Working knowledge in the following computer programs to communicate, record, and analyze information related to work: Microsoft Office Programs - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook; Computer Aided Drafting Programs - MicroStation/Geopak/AutoCAD; etc. Familiar with NDOT's Roadway Design Manual, MUTCD, GIS, and Standard Specifications for Highway Construction. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
