General:

This position is responsible for testing, sampling, and inspecting construction materials or elements in a laboratory or field setting to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications. Level I technicians test, sample, or inspect one or more construction materials or elements.

Essential Job Role:

  • Collect/prepare samples of one of the following construction materials; soil, aggregate, hot mix asphalt (HMA) or Portland cement concrete (PCC) in either a laboratory or field setting.
  • Perform quality control testing on one of the above materials in either a lab or field setting to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications.
  • Perform inspections on one of the above materials in either a lab or field setting to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications.
  • Prepare and communicate testing and inspection results to supervisors to ensure quality control standards are satisfied and process changes can be implemented.
  • Participate in and promote Martin Marietta's safety procedures and policies to promote a safe working environment.
  • Comply with OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations in order to perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Must have the ability to follow MSHA and OSHA regulations, industry safety programs and possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor, including lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while paying attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with little direction.
Additional Requirements/Skills:
  • Must have a up to date passport.
  • Traveling by car and plane from California to Canda to perform weekly sluice cleanouts.
  • Perform manual labor to take apart the riffles and manually wash rugs in 55 gal barrels in a timely manner while ensuring no material loss during the process.
  • Put the sluices back together according to training every time to avoid breakdowns and loss of production.
  • Understand how the equipment functions and have the ability to repair in a timely manner to ensure clean outs can be completed as scheduled.
  • Understand the process flow for each plant and be able to identify and communicate potential sources of recovery loss for that weeks clean out.
  • Inspect and record the condition of existing sluice contents, maintain necessary inventory per site and replace damaged contents before failure.
  • Inspect and communicate the condition of sluice box, communicate with plant management to schedule repairs as needed.
  • Collect samples of various products for running mix designs and other tests.
  • Keep accurate recordings of data for recordkeeping and reporting of any test results.
  • Have a mechanical and wielding background.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
Education:
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Regional or State Agency certification desired
Work Experience:

  • Entry level position (0-2 years)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
