Purpose & Scope:

Experienced position in Quality Engineering as part of our Marine and Aerospace Quality Engineering team assigned to the quality department with a primary focus to design, improve, upgrade, implement and maintain Process Controls. Take initiative, lead or support the definition and execution of Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving projects. This position requires a strong Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Lean and Six Sigma tools knowledge, understanding and practical hands experience, contributing directly to outstanding Quality and Operations performance and the success of the company. Develops and improves inspection processes by studying product and processes. Drives product and process changes to ensure close tolerance machined parts, assembly and testing meet customer and drawing requirements while improving quality and delivery and, reducing cost.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, upgrade, implement and maintain Quality process controls, quality data collection, analysis and reporting processes.
  • Analyze process and product performance, non-conformances using formal, structured quality tools, identifying root cause(s), implementing robust corrective actions to eliminate variation and rejects
  • Drive systematic quality improvements using Lean Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving tools and implement containment, corrective actions and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Consistently utilize formal Quality tools; process mapping, FMEA's, control plans, process controls, structured problem solving and CI, engaging internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Based on data analysis and quality controls findings develop and upgrade a closed loop feedback process between process inspection and testing and, receiving inspection and supplier quality, improving supplier performance and upgrading receiving inspection methods plans (IMP).
  • Develop and execute Gage R&R (gage repeatability and reproducibility) studies, and recommend actions to improve measurement methods.
  • Analyze contractual customer requirements and translate into an operational definition. Provide direction to operations and quality regarding customer requirements.
  • Collaborate Material Review Board (MRB) submittals to evaluate non conforming product and quickly decide on appropriate disposition.
  • Coordinate, host and lead customer audits and evaluations in collaboration with the QMS lead.
  • Work with the QMS leadership and value stream operations management to create, upgrade, revise and control Sargent written procedures, work instructions and standard work enforcing compliance to industry standards, customer requirements and to Sargent tests and policies.
  • Ability to read GD&T to review dimensional variation on FAI and determine opportunities in drawing reviews, analyze tolerances and stack-ups representing the manufacturing and assembly process capabilities, measurement methods and gaging and improving manufacturability.
  • Act as liaison with customers by processing customer complaints, assessing product returns, rejects and escapes and, providing feedback to Sargent and improving process controls.
  • Work together with cross functional teams to reach monthly, qurterly and yearly operations and business goals..

Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • Seven years experience in Quality Engineering and Quality Assurance
  • LSS Green Belt trained and certified, completed projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to use MS Office applications (email, Excel, Word and Power Point)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn, be proactive, have initiative, self-motivated, work collaboratively with colleagues with minimal direct supervision
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelors of Science in a technical discipline; Industrial, Manufacturing, Systems or Mechanical Engineering
  • Highly skilled Continuous Improvement techniques, LSS Black Belt trained and certified.
  • Hold a Quality Engineer ASQ certification, Internal Auditor Certification to AS9100 Quality System
  • Seven or more years of Quality Engineering/Quality Assurance lead
  • Experience in the aerospace/defense industry, DCMA and FAA experience
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams with technical expertise, Project Leadership, Project Management
  • Proven presentation and speaking skills
  • Experience/working knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Ability to read and decipher manufacturing drawings and procedures
  • Advanced MS Office applications; Access, Sharepoint, MS Teams, MS Project, MiniTab, Visio, Power BI.
