The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of Biomedical Science (or equivalent) and postdoctoral experience in research fields related to musculoskeletal system, tissue analysis and molecular biology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.

Responsibilities may include scientific research using in vivo and in vitro models to investigate hypoxia signaling pathways and bioenergetic metabolism in bone mass accrual and homeostasis.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to submit and collaborate on grant proposals and journal publications, participate in the department's educational programs as assigned, and mentor and teach junior lab members. He/She will work in an interdisciplinary environment with experts in biology, medicine and engineering.

Applicants must have experience in in-vivo and in-vitro analyses of skeletal phenotypes including metabolomics and single cell RNA sequencing. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, including a demonstrated ability to publish research results in peer-reviewed journal articles.
