Advertised Job Summary:

The Research Program Coordinator will work with the faculty principal investigator, Dr. Abigail Hogan, and grant staff to assist with NIH-funded studies focused on anxiety and communication in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and fragile X syndrome (FXS). Responsibilities may include: coordinating recruitment and community outreach activities; determining participant eligibility; enrolling and scheduling eligible participants; managing website, newsletter, and social media communications; conducting participant assessments; managing participant records and data in REDCap databases; and preparing reports for families and funding agencies. The position will involve occasional travel within the state of South Carolina and across the United States for participant assessments or conference attendance. This position is ideal for someone who desires a longer-term position in research with a higher level of intellectual stimulation, leadership, and challenge.

Required Education and Experience:

This position requires a bachelor's degree in psychology, education, communication sciences and disorders, communications/marketing, or a related field. Travel across South Carolina and within the United States is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in recruitment and community-based outreach for research; Extensive knowledge of agencies, providers, and networks that serve children with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families in the state of South Carolina; Prior experience working with families who have children with neurodevelopmental disorders; Prior experience with REDCap data management software

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

This individual must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, postdocs, other research staff, and graduate and undergraduate students, as well as communicate effectively and sensitively with families who participate in research. This individual must also be interested in and skilled at working with children with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families.

Job Duty:

Coordinate and oversee recruitment-related activities, such as study advertisement and participation in community engagement events. Includes managing website, newsletter, and social media communications; developing advertisement and recruitment materials; attending community outreach events and conferences with other team members; meeting with community stakeholders to discuss research participation opportunities; and coordinating with state-wide and national agencies to distribute study advertisements.

Recruit, screen, enroll, and schedule research participants, with assistance from other team members as indicated. Includes coordinating research assessment appointments and managing the lab assessment schedule/calendar; coordinating research subject travel arrangements; tracking return of survey and informant data; ensuring that participants receive compensation/reimbursement for research participation and associated travel expenses; tracking enrollment numbers in REDCap and generating enrollment reports and projections; assisting the PI with reporting recruitment and enrollment updates to funding agencies.
