PRIMARY FUNCTION
This position is responsible for conducting field and greenhouse research in Weed Science

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement field research experiments, layout plots, apply herbicides and other treatments, evaluate weed and crop response, and analyze data.

• Implement greenhouse screening experiments for determination of evolved herbicide resistance, including maintaining weed seed stocks and collection records.

• Interact with growers, industry representatives, and research associates, with opportunities for other outreach activities.

• Supervise undergraduate and extra-help employees with instruction on data collection and field plot maintenance.

• Maintain pesticide and seed inventory logs.

• Conduct field tours for research sponsors.

EDUCATION
Required: B.S. in crop sciences/agronomy or related discipline.
Preferred: M.S. in weed science or other pest management discipline

EXPERIENCE
Required:
Two years' experience in field research
Two years" experience with basic farm equipment and technology operation and maintenance, and basic agronomic practices such as planting, tillage and herbicide applications,
Computers for word processing, experience with spreadsheet software, and data management,
Greenhouse research equipment and experiment designs.
Supervisory experience is also required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have a thorough knowledge of weed science principles, ability to accurately identify weed species and rationalize herbicide mode of action tank mixtures for multiple species weed control. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to speak in public and work collaboratively.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/17/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
