GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
A position is available for a laboratory technician to be a part of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) research team in the lab of Dr. Brad Hyman. The major goal of the lab is to study the molecular mechanisms and neuropathology of neurodegenerative changes in AD and related disorders to understand the pathophysiology of these diseases and improve diagnosis and treatment. More specifically to this position we are looking at the effect of the protein encoded by the greatest genetic risk factor for AD, apolipoprotein E, which is an immensely exciting area of AD research. The successful candidate will master the art of tissue culture, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, ELISA, microscopy, image analysis, and in vivo mouse work including surgery. The incumbent is expected to work both independently and as a team member with investigators, staff, fellows, and students; and will report directly to Dr. Brad Hyman and Dr. Rosemary Jackson.
