The residence life coordinator assists with overseeing the residence halls and assists in supervising the resident assistant (RA) staff. This is a twelve-month, live-in position which requires evening and weekend hours that reports to the assistant director of residence life. The position assists the Office of Residence Life in the fulfillment of the mission of the university and the department to provide students with a living-learning environment that promotes graduating ethical leaders who are inspired by a passion for learning and lead lives of significance in support of the university's mission and Catholic values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a role model, resource person and referral agent to resident students.
  • Develop positive relationships with students in the residence halls while providing overall supervision and management of assigned residential area(s).
  • Be an active and present leader within the residence hall/area for which you are responsible.
  • Work with individual students to resolve various residential issues such as roommate conflicts, facility concerns, etc.
  • Work with individual students to assist and support them with academic, social, transitional and mental health concerns.
  • Facilitate room changes and roommate mediations.
  • Serve as a case manager for the Mount Cares referral team for student support.
  • Conduct student conduct conferences with students who have violated the Code of Student Conduct as assigned by the Associate Dean of students/Director of Residence Life or designee.
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop and implement annual RA selection, training and ongoing in-service training.
  • Supervise the five (5) Community Assistants in Tower Apartments and six (6) Resident Assistants in Powell Hall.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned by the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life or senior administrators.
  • Participate in admissions programs such as Open Houses and Accepted Students Day
  • Participate and assist in the supervision of major events held by the university and/or the Office of Student Activities such as New Student Orientation, Welcome Week and others as assigned.
  • Develop positive collaborative relationships with departments, including Physical Plant, Public Safety, Dining Services, the Wellness Center, Campus Ministry, Recreation Services and Accounting & Financial Affairs.
  • Serve as a liaison to Physical Plant for respective area and manage work orders in assigned areas.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in some capacity in the supervision of the summer housing process and resident assistant program.
  • Serve in the on-call rotation as scheduled.
  • Take an active role in the opening and closing of the university at the beginning and end of the academic year and at all major break periods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Supervise the 6 Resident Assistants in Powell Hall and 5 Community Assistants in Apartments and Cottages
  • Oversee all aspects of the residential community including but not limited to student concerns, student conduct and facilities management
  • Serve as liaison with Physical Plant in terms of maintenance tracking, renovations and inventory replacement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The area coordinator position requires a demonstrated commitment to the Catholic, liberal arts mission of the University. It is preferred that the successful candidate will possess a Master's degree in a relevant field and have a proven record of success in higher education leadership.

REMUNERATION: The position includes an on campus 2-bedroom apartment with a private entrance in the Apartments. Laundry, parking, and internet and are included with the apartment. This is a salaried position with meal swipes provided per semester and is also eligible for the full University benefit package.
