CobbFendley is a multi-discipline firm founded in 1980 in Houston, Texas, providing engineering and surveying services. CobbFendley is seeking a Project Engineer for the Transportation Department in the Houston office. The successful candidate will provide engineering design and support for new construction, rehabilitation, widening and reconstruction of highway, tollway, bridge, and thoroughfare projects. Candidate should be motivated, exhibit initiative, and be a team player looking to lead and manage Transportation projects.

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include:

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in roadway design and PS&E development
  • Engineer with a BSCE and Texas Professional Engineering License
  • City, County, Municipal Roadway & Drainage design project engineering design & management experience
  • MicroStation and GeoPak experience required
  • Experience producing construction plan sets independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written/verbal skills
  • Motivated to learn in a dynamic environment with short deadlines
  • The Engineer will work independently, with a team, and clients on multiple projects across Texas


Essential Functions:

Support CobbFendley Senior Project Managers with engineering design tasks & project management for various roadway/municipal projects.
Represent CobbFendley at client meetings and performing client coordination.
Apply technical expertise and be able to work with a project team on conventional and unconventional projects.
Provide technical mentoring, training, and oversight to E.I.T. and younger engineer staff.
Training to meet company safety standards.
Work in a safe and efficient manner at all times.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
Mobility within the office including movement between floors and workstations.
Repeated motions (i.e.-typing, reaching, bending, lifting and carrying).
Communication with other employees and clients.

Environmental Factors:

Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and jobsites for observations may be required.
Jobsite observations factors could include: walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor environments and extreme weather (heat and freezing temperatures), noise exposure, driving for extended periods of time, exposure to allergens (i.e. pollen, dust, cedar, sumac, poison ivy, etc.), exposure to construction and traffic work zones, possible hand and power tool use, and extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use.
Extended use of electronic devices (i.e.-computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters and telephones).
Use of cutting tools and equipment (plotting equipment, rotary paper cutter, etc.).

Expected hours of work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30 pm.

This position reports to the Transportation Regional Manager.
