Scientific Editor, Cell Press

Cell Press is seeking to hire a full-time Scientific Editor to join our editorial team. We are interested in applicants with expertise is any area of life science covered by Cell Press journals, and particularly in candidates with a background in cancer research or genetics/genomics. This is an exciting opportunity to join an outstanding team of scientists who work together collaboratively in a world-class publishing environment.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Assessing submitted research papers and making editorial recommendations
- Overseeing the peer review process and providing outstanding author experience
- Establishing relationships with researchers through outreach to the scientific community

- Recruiting top-quality content for publication in Cell Press journals
- Working collaboratively with academic editorial board members and editors

-Traveling to scientific conferences and visiting academic institutes

- Commissioning and editing review material and other front matter formats
- Writing content for the journal homepage, blog and social media outlets
- Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond

What we are looking for:
- Broad interest and a desire to learn

- PhD in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline; postdoctoral experience is preferred

- Previous editorial experience is an advantage but is not required
- A talent for clear communication
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Interest in digital communication and publishing trends
- Critical thinking skills and enthusiasm for learning about new areas of research
- The ability to work successfully both independently and in a diverse global team

This is a full-time in-house editorial position based in our offices in Cambridge, MA, USA. We are also open to candidates who would be based in our other office locations (London/Oxford UK, Amsterdam NL, Shanghai/Beijing/Shenzhen China).
