The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Cardiology has an opening for a full-time Section Head/Associate Professor or Professor position.

Nature of Work:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation's premier academic pediatric programs. Its clinical and educational programs are consistently rated among the top 10 nationally by US News and World Report. The Department is seeking qualified candidates to lead the Section of Cardiology at Children's Hospital Colorado and University of Colorado School of Medicine.

We are seeking a leader with a vision towards advancing clinical care, research, and education to further the mission of the Section as the nation's premier child health heart program. The Section of Cardiology has more than 80 faculty practicing at Children's Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus and at Children's Hospital Colorado-Colorado Springs. As the largest medical center in the western region providing such broad expertise, Cardiology at Children's Hospital Colorado is the referral center for children and adolescents with heart and cardiovascular disorders for much of the western U.S.

We seek an individual with an accomplished academic record, demonstrated programmatic leadership, and experience within a high-functioning, diverse, academic pediatric Cardiology program. The successful candidate will be responsible for sustaining and growing the program (including co-direction of the Children's Hospital Colorado Heart Institute), managing system of care clinical practice sites, enhancing the multi-disciplinary research program(s), and fostering strong, collaborative relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.

Successful candidates must possess a MD, DO or foreign equivalent; PsyD or PhD will be considered, and national leadership experience is required. Candidates should have proven collaborative leadership skills to direct the clinical, research, and educational programs of the Section, demonstrate a strong clinical practice background, excellence in research, scholarship, and administrative experience. A successful candidate must have demonstrated excellence in mentoring and working with faculty, administration, residents, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. Candidates should be committed to increasing the diversity and inclusion of faculty, trainees, and staff at all levels and to demonstrating the highest level of professional integrity and interaction in all realms.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Oversee the programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensure financial and human resources are available to support research, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
  • Develop innovative clinical, educational and research programs to enhance the local standing and national reputation of the Section. Lead the development and implementation of educational and clinical training programs, inclusive of the Pediatric General Cardiology and Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant fellowship programs. Support faculty recruitment and the infrastructure for faculty development. Build new and further strengthen existing partnerships with affiliate institutions, community partners and organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. Direct and strategically expand Cardiology clinical patient care operations, both inpatient and outpatient settings. Establish strong metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance including quality and process improvement/clinical effectiveness initiatives. Partner with the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation and University of Colorado Foundation to develop community philanthropic support of Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Institute programs and initiatives. Recruit and develop faculty and interdisciplinary professionals to support the clinical and academic missions. Facilitate provider wellness and overall job satisfaction, leading to high faculty retention. Oversee departmental compliance with regulatory requirements and quality improvement. Oversee credentialing review and approval of all faculty in Cardiology including initial and ongoing performance evaluation. Facilitate collaboration in academic and clinical care with other sections within the Department of Pediatrics as well as Departments within the University of Colorado School of Medicine and other health sciences related units.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at:

MD/DO
    Associate Professor: $325,000 to $400,000 Professor: $425,000 to $485,000

PhD/PsyD
    Associate Professor: $175,000 to $200,000 Professor: $225,000 to $275,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Associate Professor:
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
  • 5-7 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary academic pediatric Cardiology program. Eligibility for appointment at the Associate Professor rank. Independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult Cardiology patients (MD/DO and PsyD candidates). Experience with working with diverse patient populations. Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring. Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Cardiology (MD/DO candidates). Academic focus in cardiovascular biology, genetic and molecular mechanisms of cardiac diseases and/or human physiology (PhD candidates). Must be licensed or able to obtain unrestricted licensure to practice in the State of Colorado (MD/DO and PsyD candidates).

Professor:
    Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD). 8-10 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary academic pediatric Cardiology program. Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor. Independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult Cardiology patients(MD/DO and PsyD candidates). Experience with working with diverse patient populations. Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring. Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Cardiology (MD/DO candidates). Academic focus in cardiovascular biology, genetic and molecular mechanisms of cardiac diseases and/or human physiology (PhD candidates). Must be licensed or able to obtain unrestricted licensure to practice in the State of Colorado (MD/DO and PsyD candidates).

Conditions of Employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Vision for program development, leadership qualities, and academic experience. Strong interpersonal communication, emotional intelligence, and management skills. Ability to balance the priorities of the Section with those of the Department, Hospital, and other partners to ensure the overall goals of all entities are achieved.

Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in Cardiology program development, strong clinical skills, significant accomplishments in research, proven administrative and leadership abilities, and a strong commitment to education. Experience building constructive relationships and ensuring cohesiveness among various entities, programs, and groups. Experience working and leading within an academic institution.
