Position Summary:
We are currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our team at Asahi Kasei Bioprocess! The qualified individual will be responsible for managing the design, build, and testing activities for new, custom pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical equipment performing chromatography, dilution, filtration, and synthesis and other downstream processes. This individual will ensure project timelines and budgets stay on track. This individual will also have very close interaction directly with the customer and ownership of capital equipment projects from order to install.

Responsibilities:

Engineering:
  • Lead the design and assembly of specifically assigned customer projects to communicated requirements
  • Direct procurement of required materials for a specific project, including raw materials, fabrication, off-the-shelf components, custom components, parts for stock and testing supplies
  • Maintain open channel of communication with customer to manage expectations regarding scope, timeline, progress, and required customer feedback
  • Schedule and execute testing activities for a specific project, including mechanical and automation commissioning, GAMP qualification, customer Factory Acceptance Testing and customer Site Acceptance Testing
  • Ensure project documents are created accurately in a timely manner and review documents created by other engineers, including datasheets, drawings, specification documents, test documents, or other customer-specific documents
  • Project Management - 3 to 8 concurrent projects (30%)
  • Identify and clarify project scope internally and with customer, and prevent scope creep throughout project
  • Identify critical customer contacts for a specific project and communicate with each as necessary
  • Manage specific project schedule and communicate when critical path tasks will potentially or definitely cause a delay
  • Apply awareness of specific project budget for labor and materials to prevent impact on margin
  • Employ a customer-focused approach to each project to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Customer Support (10%)
  • Respond to and research customer inquiries and complaints within an ISO 9001 environment
  • Address issues in person or over the phone by communicating solutions to customer and providing effective training to relevant personnel
  • Leverage vendor or manufacturer expertise to solve component-related problems
  • Utilize subject matter experts to solve process- or automation-related problems

Project Management:
  • Identify and clarify project scope internally and with customer, and prevent scope creep throughout project
  • Identify critical customer contacts for a specific project and communicate with each as necessary
  • Manage specific project schedule and communicate when critical path tasks will potentially or definitely cause a delay
  • Apply awareness of specific project budget for labor and materials to prevent impact on margin
  • Employ a customer-focused approach to each project to ensure customer satisfaction

Customer Support:
  • Respond to and research customer inquiries and complaints within an ISO 9001 environment
  • Address issues in person or over the phone by communicating solutions to customer and providing effective training to relevant personnel
  • Leverage vendor or manufacturer expertise to solve component-related problems
  • Utilize subject matter experts to solve process- or automation-related problems

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Contribute technical expertise to Sales & Marketing for quotation support when requested
  • Contribute technical support to Quality for addressing customer inquiries and complaints when requested
  • Administrative duties such as timecard entry, internal and external meetings, training, and regular workplace cleanup
  • Pursue special project as assigned by Engineering Supervisor or Engineering and Operations Manager

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • 8+ years' experience in building or operating process equipment, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Biomedical)
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, instrumentation, fittings, and analytical measurement tools
  • Ability to speak easily and accurately about process equipment with current or potential customers
  • Ability to effectively communicate requirements to vendors and manufacturers
  • Insight into customer processes and operational needs
  • Effective project management skills
  • Problem-solving mentality to creatively troubleshoot unexpected process or equipment issues
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills
  • Willingness to assist outside of everyday job responsibilities if required by Engineering Supervisor or Engineering and Operations Manager
  • Must be energetic, positive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated

Physical Demands/Travel Requirements:
  • Travel 2 to 8 weeks in a year to visit domestic and international customer sites for installations or other meetings
  • Exposure to pressurized non-hazardous liquids and live electrical equipment
