SUMMARY

The Senior Project Manager - IT manages, plans and coordinates the full life cycle of projects for CNI's business systems. This position ensures that all project goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe, budgetary parameters and to the customer's satisfaction. Provides project team leadership necessary to meet defined project deliverables and maintains positive working relationships with the customer and key stakeholders. Utilizes subject matter expertise to analyze and evaluate business functions, systems and processes in order to determine the most effective business solutions for meeting the needs of CNI enterprise objectives. This position is responsible to elicit, analyze, validate, specify, verify and manage the real needs of project stakeholders, including sponsors and end users.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manages and communicates project expectations to team members and stakeholders maintaining a solid customer relationship and assuring customer satisfaction with the successful execution of the project. This position will be most successful when a high degree of organizational aptitude is present along with a high level of enthusiasm and a strong drive to achieve outcomes using indirect resources.

Interfaces with internal project teams, management, customers and suppliers. Maintains timely communications and develops collaborative rapport with solutions-oriented approaches.

Effectively manages the project scope, deliverables, costs, profitability, schedule, quality and resources.

Develops IT project plans to guide the execution and control of the project, and tracks project milestones and deliverables.

Communicates IT project plans, objectives, timelines, schedules, job assignments, responsibilities and reporting relationships.

Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical path. Proactively manages changes in project scope. Identifies potential crises and devises contingency plans.

Implements industry best practices, project management tools and methodologies.

Effectively leads tool selection and procurement for solutions to meet the business requirements in project scope.

Responsible for solution implementation planning, design, installation, modification and operation of information systems capabilities. Ensures that the software and related products satisfy the needs and requirements of the customer.

May be required to facilitate the establishment and implementation of policies, procedures and standards, and governance to ensure compliance.

Develops requirements and specifications according to professional standards and using business language familiar to core business units (i.e., Human Resources, Finance, Operations, etc.).

Works closely with business stakeholders to understand and help document a formal project business case.

Elicits, writes and communicates requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis and/or viewpoints.

Decomposes high-level business requirements into functional requirements specified in an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by those who must base their work on the requirements.

Represents requirements using alternative views, such as analysis models (diagrams), prototypes or scenarios, where appropriate.

Leads requirements analysis and verification efforts. Ensures that requirement statements conform to standards and are complete, consistent, concise, understandable, traceable, feasible, unambiguous and verifiable.

Participates in peer reviews, inspects requirements documents and work products derived from requirements specifications. Ensures that requirements were interpreted correctly. Participates in requirements prioritization. Manages requirements and traceability information. Tracks requirements status throughout the project.

Manages changes to baseline requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools.

Ensures that proposed system features/requirements meet user needs and satisfy business objectives/ initiatives.

Performs and coordinates User Acceptance testing, as required.

Develops training and instructs business users on new capabilities.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field of study and a minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience working with small and larger scale projects, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Must have experience with application domain knowledge. Experience with government contracting preferred.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.

Lean/Six-Sigma certification preferred.

Some ITIL and ISO experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
