We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist in the Next-Gen Immuno-Oncology team with strong scientific and broad technical expertise in human immunology to join our team in Gaithersburg, MD. The NextGen IO department within ICC (Immuno-Oncology, Immune Circuits & Engagers and Cell Therapy) of Early Oncology R&D at AstraZeneca develops immunotherapies targeting cancer that boost the immune responses seen in tumors. This department is researching novel immune mechanisms that lead to a dysfunctional immune state within tumors with the aim of developing next generation therapies that reverse such dysfunctional states. Our research has a broad scope involving innate and adaptive immune cells and exploring dysfunction in metabolic pathways, antigen presentation, and antigen receptor signaling. As member of NextGen IO group, you will develop, design, conduct and analyze in vitro experiments to assess novel immunological mechanisms that can be exploited to enhance anti-tumor immunity.
This is primarily a bench scientist role and proficiency in techniques for the analysis of human immune function is crucial for this role. We are seeking a self-motivated and passionate individual with a strong lab/practical background in in vitro human immunology who is passionate about novel approaches to drug discovery. Furthermore, the individual will be expected to work in a team and in a cross-functional matrix environment as the project advances through the drug discovery pipeline.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Working within the Next-Gen IO team, you will apply your technical and scientific experience to design, conduct, and analyze in vitro experiments using primary human immune cells for enhancing anti-tumor immune responses. You will be involved in designing and performing small scale screens to identify potential immunomodulatory drug candidates. You will stay up to date with the latest discoveries in immunology and immuno-oncology, share your expertise both within and beyond the Next-Gen IO group. You will also stay up to date with new technologies and assay formats for evaluation of human immune function. You will present findings in multiple group and departmental meetings. You will be expected to maintain accurate electronic records of experiments and ensure that your own work, and work of peers, is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice, Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal and external regulations and standards.
