Senior Staff Accountant

We are searching for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant for our Store Support Center located at 600 Citadel Drive, Commerce, CA
SUMMARY
This position reports to the Assistant Controller. Responsibilities include rebate issue resolution, review of rebate contracts, supporting rebates team by processing rebates contracts as needed, preparation of period end account reconciliations and journal entries, and analysis of actuals versus budget, and company reconciliation and reporting and periodic audits of the Procurement to Pay. Assist the Sales & Merchandising department and vendors regarding rebate deals and payments. Assist in coordinating and supporting the annual post-audit review of rebates performed by third party specialists. Key responsibilities also include recording journal entries during period close, preparing and analyzing accruals, and direct expense/rebate income review of actuals vs budget and trends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned or required.

REBATES PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

  • Perform audits of all rebate deals and ensures deals are recorded accurately, properly approved and in compliance with company policy.
  • Work with IT, Sales & Merchandising and Vendors to identify rebate issues, proposing and implementing solutions.
  • Work with AP teams to prepare all periodic journal entries related to the rebates program.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations ensuring accounts are stated in compliance with GAAP and S&F company policy.
  • Ensure rebates are collected timely and payments are applied to accounts correctly.
PROCURE-TO-PAY ACCOUNTING (60%):

  • Prepare all periodic journal entries for S&F corporate, store and warehouse expenses.
  • Work with key business owners of corporate, store and warehouse expense activity to properly accrue for expenses and ensure that the accruals are booked to the proper cost centers.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations ensuring accounts are stated in compliance with GAAP, S&F company policy.
  • Actively pursues efficiencies in shortening the accounting close process for corporate, store and warehouse expenses.
PERIOD-END ANALYTICS

  • Determine adequacy of accruals related to the AP expense department and the rebates program using best professional judgment, experience and analysis of historical trends.
  • Review variances between budget and forecast, investigates budget assumptions and latest forecast against actuals, report significant variances to management for rebate and AP expense accounts.
  • Perform periodic analysis of accruals based on historical data; build assumptions over invoice "lag" and make recommendations and conclusions regarding the adequacy of reserves, as needed.
  • Monthly review and presentation of Backstage accounts explaining significant variances in alignment with S&F SOX procedures and policies.
  • Key contact to external auditors related to the rebates for S&F. Provide evidence of testing of SOX controls and supporting audit schedules for periodic corporate audits of S&F.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

  • Serve as a key liaison over system enhancements to the rebate process, including overseeing and monitoring rebates entered externally and interfacing into the S&F corporate systems.
  • Constantly evaluating rebates process and proposing changes to ensure best practices are maintained in the rebates accounting department.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance with at least three years' experience in a corporate accounting department. Requires strong accounting reconciliation skills. Strong PC skills and the ability to utilize spreadsheets are preferred.

COMPENSATION:The salary range for this position is $80,000.00 to $95,000.00. The actual starting pay will be determined by a number of qualifications; including, experience and relevant skills.
