POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Systems Engineer's role is to develop technical strategy for IT; to plan, architect, and engineer IT systems/services, both near-term and long-term; to research and adopt processes, tools, and technology to facilitate delivery of IT services; to communicate and facilitate adoption of strategies within the organization. The Senior Systems Engineer will provide leadership, mentorship, and technical vision within the Infrastructure Team, and will provide leadership in strategic planning for the IT organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop Technical Strategy: conduct and/or audit technical solutions to identify strengths and weaknesses; create and document potential architectures and strategies that leverage IT strengths and align with internal needs; evaluate solutions against company objectives and seek approval from management for strategy pursuit; create long term roadmaps with short term milestones based on those strategies that can be used to measure IT success.
  • Research and Adopt Processes, Tools, and Technology: survey emerging technology and trends, and evangelize new technologies, standards, best practices, and methodologies that will have a positive impact on IT efficiency and quality of services; lead the evaluation of vendor software/hardware targeted for possible integration into the IT environment; facilitate and lead design reviews across the organization.
  • Communicate and Facilitate Adoption of Strategies: create a technology environment based on open communication and the sharing of ideas and components; share lessons learned, standards, and best practices throughout the organization; communicate technical strategies and evangelize their importance; enforce IT technical strategies.
  • Create deliverables to document and communicate strategies, roadmaps, architectures, solution tradeoff analyses and recommendations, deployed technologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and applications staff to ensure operational and user needs are incorporated in solutions and architectures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-10 years' experience in systems development, systems administration, and systems engineering
  • Medium-to-large (500-to-1000+ user) environments
  • Excellent architecture, engineering, design, development, operation, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Extensive experience with multiple of the following technologies relevant to IT environments: Cisco, Windows Server, HP/UX, Oracle, SQL Server, Web, Citrix, Exchange, Active Directory, SharePoint, SANs, and VMWare.
  • Extensive experience with and ability to lead/mentor team on methodologies and best practices.
  • Excellent project skills and experience on project teams
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with good attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently with little management oversight or direction.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer science or software engineering and/or 5-10 years equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience with multiple of the following technologies relevant to IT environments: Cisco, Windows Server,
    HP/UX, Oracle, SQL Server, Web, Citrix, Exchange, Active Directory, SharePoint, SANs, and WMWare.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products.
  • Proven experience with leadership in systems planning, security principles, and general systems management best practices.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Excellent architecture, engineering, design, development, operation, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
    experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components/peripherals.
