Overview

In this role, the Senior Underwriter is primarily responsible for reviewing electronic new business submissions, renewal policies, and related transactions to determine acceptability and alignment with underwriting appetite and pricing guidance. This is a commercial package underwriter focusing on New York habitational. Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and price new and renewal business
  • Obtain, review and take timely action on inspections
  • On mid-term change requests: review, evaluate additional underwriting concerns and process endorsements
  • Handle cancelations/non-renewals according to state regulations and company guidelines
  • Process all company, policy and general correspondence
  • Review/approve decisions escalated from within the team and provide training and guidance
  • Serve as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) as required
  • Special projects geared to improving processes and profitability of the portfolio and other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of commercial property and casualty insurance experience with full authority in the small business urban sector required
  • Superior knowledge of underwriting, pricing, coverages in relevant industry segments (i.e. real estate, retail, wholesale, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e. Claims, Sales, Operations, Actuarial, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statutory rules and constraints, and computer workflow procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop long-term relationships with agents
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet/exceed workload quotas in a high transactional environment
  • Ability to collaborate with internal business partners to deliver a great agent experience
  • Ability to be self-motivated and proactively pursue potential business opportunities with agents
