Local Unit & Position Description

DNV is a leading solar industry technical authority focused on pre-construction project design & assessment, lenders' services and operational monitoring; Solar - DNV. Key to our success is the breadth and depth of domain knowledge embodied in 300 DNV professional solar engineers and our collective focus on technical excellence.

The SolarFarmer software package is DNV's commercial (and in-house) tool for PV energy calculation providing PV project developers and operators unparalleled calculation fidelity in a scalable cloud compute engine; PV plant design software | solar plant design | SolarFarmer (dnv.com). We are expanding the functionality and scalability of our existing desktop and web software, adding new domain engineering features and consumption-based API services whilst maintaining best in class user experience.

The SolarFarmer team is based in the Renewables and Ocean Structures unit of DNV Digital Solutions. We work alongside renewables domain and software professionals empowering engineers globally to innovate, to drive down the cost of energy and to accelerate the energy transition. The unit is responsible for many other renewables software products and services including Wind turbine design software | Bladed (dnv.com) and Sesam (dnv.com) for wind turbine machinery design and assessment, accompanied by Wind resource assessment | WindFarmer: Analyst (dnv.com) and Resource panorama DNV for wind farm energy and resource assessment respectively.

DNV maintains organisation-wide goals for digitalisation and decarbonisation of all relevant industrial sectors, and we are serious about innovation! DNV re-invests 5% of revenues in Research & Development. In addition our Digital Solutions Business Area is investing heavily in renewables software and within our unit we provide a 10% innovation time framework for all staff.

The successful candidate will be working alongside our US based sales and support staff, strengthening technical connections between customers and in-house solar consultants based in the Americas, and with our European based SolarFarmer development team

What You'll Do

Support our users

  • Keep product knowledge and technical skills up to date by contributing to technical support and customer success activities for existing customers
  • Drive the development of the SolarFarmer online e-learning and virtual training offerings, and deliver technical training
Support the sales team during the sales process
  • Present SolarFarmer to prospective customers and answer technical questions about the software and its applications
  • Work with customers to understand technical needs in relation to SolarFarmer's current and potential capabilities. Gather objective customer feedback to feed into SolarFarmer development roadmap.
Drive improvement of pre-sales resources and processes
  • Improve and generate new pre-sales materials such as presentations and demos
  • Empower and coach other team members to carry out pre-sales activities and generate pre-sales resources
Thought leadership
  • Work with the SolarFarmer and marketing teams to provide thought leadership to relevant markets through presentation at conferences, open-days, publications, articles, webinars, etc
  • Co-ordinate software open days and training events

Position Qualifications

What is Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, physics or related discipline
  • 3 years of experience working in a software or engineering environment
  • Familiarity with PV, energy storage or power grid analysis
  • Working knowledge of 3D geometry, time series analysis and Python scripting
  • Strong communication skills written and verbal
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
  • We conduct a pre-employment background check and drug screening

What is Preferred
  • Experience of commercial engineering software testing
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies
  • Experience using PV software (e.g. PVsyst)
