Solution Architect - Digital Health, R&D IT

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to guide how technology can enable AstraZeneca to scale patient centric clinical trials, augment patient outcomes and transform healthcare. As a solution architect within the digital health architecture group, you will be responsible for the direction, performance and ongoing health of the solution architecture within the Digital Health Portfolio of Products and Business Processes.

Being part of R&D IT Architecture's Digital Health Team allows you to go a step further, by creating solutions that interface directly with patients and providers across patient-centric clinical trials, digital therapeutics, diagnostics and SaMD.

What you'll do

As a Solution Architect, you will specialize in digital health architecture development supporting business and IT strategic objectives across the digital health portfolio of programs and products which includes patient facing applications, digital therapeutics, digital diagnostics, data platforms and visualizations. You will ensure that architectures delivered, both logical and physical, are aligned with AstraZeneca architecture standards, blueprints and roadmaps. You will create and review architecture designs and build a balance between immediate business requirements and long term strategic plans. You will also be instrumental in the interpretation of current architecture and define and update future architectures applying AstraZeneca architecture guiding principles.

The Solution Architect will be accountable for driving solution evaluation, selection decisions, buy vs build decisions and proof-of-concept projects and advise on business case development.

The Solution Architect is a highly motivated self-starter that is an independent thinker who thrives on finding creative and innovative solutions. You will have experience and expertise in the following areas:

  • Designs and ensures that architectures, solution blueprints for projects or solutions that address business/application/data/infrastructure requirements
  • Within the solution development life cycle, the role will be accountable for architecting the solution design; starting with solution options evaluation and selection, build vs buy decisions and early phase project estimates to contribute to business case development.

  • Partner with stakeholders across Enterprise Architecture, IT Stakeholders and the Business
  • The role may require some travel both domestic and international
  • Works with Business Analysis and Solution Engineering functions and supports functional & technical requirements management, including driving software selection processes
  • Accountable for architecting and designing comprehensive solutions that meet business requirements and are aligned to AstraZeneca's Enterprise Architecture, in support of the digital health portfolio of programs and products
  • The Solution Architect will partner with project managers, business analysts, and solution engineers to create solutions that are aligned to AstraZeneca architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet the financial targets (cost and benefits).
  • Within the solution development lifecycle the role will be accountable for solution evaluation and selection, buy vs. build decisions, and early-phase project estimates which contribute to the business case.
  • Provides technical & IT expertise support to project teams and conducts AZ architectural reviews throughout project lifecycle
  • Ensures compliance with existing EA guidelines and standards (e.g. AZ Architecture Engagement Process (ISPMM) and EA Software Standards)
  • Contributes to project and service teams in the development, implementation and maintenance of standard architectural components
  • Works with third party suppliers as required and contributes to the creation of local or functional design documents
  • Works with third party suppliers to verify technical development and delivery are in adherence with the Architecture Roadmap, Blueprint and Information Services Strategy

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES
  • Degree or equivalent number of years of experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Management related fields
  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of clinical research, clinical trial, healthcare delivery, SaMD processes and technology
  • Demonstrable experience and technical expertise in the creation and deployment of solutions involving multiple technology stacks/layers, software and system integrations and large data sets
  • Experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Experience in industry architectural patterns and frameworks
  • Understands conventional and forward-thinking clinical data structures
  • Demonstrable experience in learning new business domains, processes and capabilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to be able to collaborate effectively toward a common goal and deliver solution presentations to internal stakeholders
  • Deep problem-solving, analytical, risk management skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate highly technical concepts into business language
  • Agile solution design and agile project delivery
