The Department of Facilities Management and Planning (FMP) supports the mission of the University of Denver's physical resources to provide a healthy and safe educational environment for the campus community through the services of the departments of Capital Projects and Planning, Facilities Management, Parking and Mobility Services, Auxiliaries and Real Estate, and Business & Operations.

Position Summary

Under the Director of Capital Planning and University Architect, the position provides support in the collection and maintenance of space data and floor plans, in the analysis and reporting of space usage and utilization, in developing space plans and proposals, and in assisting with capital project commencement and closeout.

Supports the mission of FMP to improve customer satisfaction, produce administrative and operational efficiencies, mitigate risk, and comply with business policies. Maintains customer service during interactions with students, staff, faculty, and other internal and external University stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Directs the continuing development and application of DU's space management software, FM Systems.
  • Plans, develops, and manages annual space surveys to ensure that space data is accurate, working with academic and administrative departments to determine current assignment and use of space.
  • Ensure that space is classified according to the US Department of Education Post-secondary Education Facilities and Classification Manual and the OMB Circular A-21 Definitions.
  • Provide reports on space information, current floor plans, and analysis in a variety of forms.
  • Perform space audits and conduct walk-throughs of campus spaces to ensure space data and floor plans reflect existing conditions and room type.
  • Manages and oversees the integration of facilities data from across multiple platforms to provide internal and external constituents convenient access to reports and data. Includes data from FMP, Institutional Research, Controllers Office, Registrar, Budget office, IT, AV, Campus Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, and others.
  • Develops facility and space studies, reports, and surveys associated with teaching, research, housing, and administrative functions.
  • Develop room numbering guidelines and quality checks to ensure renovations and new buildings are in conformance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and work with all levels of staff across various departments.
  • Train FMP and the University community members in using Space Information and related systems.
  • Maintain the unit's web presence to communicate space guidance, data, and reports.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management and Capital Planning at the beginning and end of a project. Work with Capital Planning on the close-out process to include updating Revit models and space data.
  • Represent institutional data needs and advocate for best practices with database and system developers, including those in Information Technology and third-party developers.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience using CAD and Revit and/or other graphic software programs.
  • Three years of experience in design, engineering, planning, space management, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting or similar complex business or organizational structure.
  • Five or more years of space management experience, including experience with space management software.
  • Functional knowledge of facility management practices, space policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Experience in accessing and analyzing data using different databases and enterprise systems.
  • Master's degree in related field; Project Management Certification (PMP)
Working Environment

Primarily an office environment, but activities will often extend to areas maintained by Facilities Maintenance, including mechanical rooms, electrical, rooftops, and construction environment. Extensive walking and stairs. Potential hazards may exist.

Physical Activities
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • They are occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and use hands with dexterity for space measurement

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $75,000-$85,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
