Position Title: Special Project Manager - Executive Communications (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)

Department: District Office - Chancellor's Office

Rate of Pay: $26.00-$50.00/hour

Position Summary:

The Special Project Manager - Executive Communications will develop, execute, and measure executive and employee communications strategies. The Special Project Manager - Executive Communications will assist and advise the Chancellor and Executive Leadership Team on a variety of communication issues and ensures the delivery aligns with Pima Community College's brand identity and foundational goals narrative. This position will help to advance the College's internal and external reputation and promote executive visibility in support of the Pima Community College's Mission, Vision and growth strategy. This person will develop internal and external communication platforms and manage the content for the Chancellors speaking obligations and appearances.

This position may require evening, and/or weekend work.

Rate of pay is dependent on level of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as communications advisor to the Chancellor, overseeing and leading the preparation and development of speeches, presentations, and videos. Promotes and champions College initiatives and ensures alignment of policies and procedures with the College's values and serves as the influential voice for strategies, philosophies, and initiatives. Documents decision-making processes to ensure consistency with the College's strategy and designs strategic business solutions
  • Ability to communicate about far-reaching strategies for growth, technology initiatives, organizational change, and draw correlations with College Student Goals and service to a cohesive employee experience
  • Crafts and implements communication plans that clearly articulate objectives, strategies and tactics
  • Serves as a trusted partner on routine, sensitive and confidential messages
  • Works closely with the Chancellor on strategic messaging for internal meetings, written messages and external speaking engagements
  • Discerns and reflects the Chancellor's voice in messages
  • Improves employee and executive communications efficiencies through processes, written reports, tools and collaboration
  • Establishes and maintains a dynamic network of subject matter experts and partners to enable quick and effective problem-solving
  • Performs research before and after sensitive/significant messages; tests assumptions about clarity and effectiveness and take steps to improve
  • Exerts version control and manage input from multiple sources under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in challenging or ambiguous projects
  • Leads by example with clear direction, candid feedback and a communications style that results in trust and optimism
  • Exhibits sound independent judgment, a bias for action and a disciplined approach to the communications craft
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (English or journalism preferred but not required) and
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years in a senior communications role
Or
  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in related field and,
  • Eight years plus (8+) of experience in employee/executive communications and/or related disciplines and,
  • Speechwriting and media relations experience
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Senior experience in directing a team to deliver unified messages to targeted audiences, based on the highest creative standards, and sound judgment
  • Interpersonal skills to establish rapport, credibility and collaborative relationships at a senior level, across the College
  • Superior verbal, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to effectively organize material, distill complex ideas, and write lively and appealing content in a variety of voices
  • Ability to engage effectively in leadership meetings and direct productive discussions on communication objectives and activities
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport with subject matter experts and organizational structure, culture, programs, and policies
  • Project management skills and the ability to shift priorities based on College and Chancellor needs
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Change management skills and the ability to set priorities around constant change
