About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Leader of Environmental & Regulatory, the Specialist, Environmental is responsible to ensure compliance with all relevant US Government and state/local government laws and regulations thru identification, analysis, recommended actions, tracking and reporting.

The role will be the primary contact for all US based environmental requirements and be required to interface with agencies as required. Previous experience with US Government agencies is an asset.

This position is located at our corporate office in Columbus, OH

Responsibilites:
  • Oversee development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) at US downstream operations System to ensure government regulatory agencies' and internal stakeholders' commitments are met.
  • Steward development and implementation of one or more COIMS elements to ensure conformance with corporate policies and compliance with all relevant government regulations, ensuring continuous improvement at U.S. downstream site.
  • Provide regulatory guidance and compliance assistance for solid and hazardous waste management at US downstream operations.
  • Ensures compliance to all relevant US Government and state/local government laws and regulations thru identification, analysis, recommended actions, tracking and reporting, and implementation of EMS.
  • Provide tactical direction and compliance oversight in developing, implementing, and evaluating EMS plans, goals, and timelines.
  • Communicate to Senior Corporate Management significant on-going regulator risks and provide leadership and strategic advice on how to navigate such risks.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for EMS and solid and hazardous waste issues for US downstream operations
  • Continuously monitor legal and regulatory requirements to anticipate and plan for future impact of new regulations and government actions.
  • Participate in environmental compliance and business-related councils or working groups as necessary
  • Participate and oversee environmental audits at US downstream operations
  • Inform business stakeholders of the risk implications of critical decisions by combining empirical analysis with expert judgment to assess business decisions
Deliverables:
  • Reviewing regulation, guidance and policy requirements relating to solid and hazardous waste requirements and completing a gap and risk analysis. Based on that analysis, plans will be developed to address any gaps.
  • Complete and update existing environmental management systems for the individual operating assets.
  • Prepare final environmental audit reports.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience of in EMS and waste regulatory issues
  • Minimum 8 - 10 years of experience working in risk management, governance, and regulatory requirements related to environmental compliance
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in engineering or related science degree. MBAs or J.D.s are an added benefit, but not required
  • Experience in working with a global, cross functional team
  • Oil and Gas industry experience
  • Refining sector experience would be a preference
Desired, but not required:
  • Certified in ISO 14001
  • Experience working with environmental regulator
