Major Function

Supervises employees within the production department to safely & efficiently, produce products while meeting all quality and productivity organizational objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises production employees.
  • Promotes The Toro Company's values and ethics; responsible for creating an environment of high ethical standards, trust and respect.
  • Initiate and actively participates on accident investigations using 5 Why's process to obtain root cause and achieve robust solutions.
  • Accountable for achieving daily production metrics.
  • Provide leadership by coaching and mentoring hourly personnel to achieve quality standards, meet productivity goals, solve problems, and generate/implement continuous improvement ideas.
  • Provides accurate manufacturing information by auditing, compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data.
  • Assures efficient utilization of material.
  • Controls labor and production costs according to Company standards.
  • Complies with Company and EH&S policies and procedures. Responsible to promote, practice and implement all Safety guidelines.
  • Responsible for training and updating employees on new safety guidelines including safety talks on a day-to-day basis.
  • Responsible for daily Gembawalk and 5's implementation.
  • Effectively listens to and explains difficult issues to reach shared understanding and build alignment among team members and departments.
  • Responsible for managing accurate employee timecards and leaves according to our attendance policy in a timely manner.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws which includes:
    • Interviewing, hiring and training employees.
    • Planning, assigning and directing work.
    • Training and Development
    • Annual performance evaluations.
    • Rewarding and disciplining employees.
  • Achieves manufacturing results by communicating job expectations through leads and production personnel
  • Maintains work flow by monitoring the process, setups, tooling, and personnel
  • Plans manpower needs and evaluates production requirements based on daily work load.
  • Maintains quality of products by establishing, monitoring, auditing, and enforcing production standards.
  • Develops reporting procedures and systems to detect breakdowns in the process, and initiates rapid corrections
  • Recruits, selects, orients, and trains employees; develops personal growth through cross-training, goal setting, monitoring, and coaching
  • Conducts annual reviews for staff performance
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies & OSHA requirements
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment that meets all 5S and organizational standards
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Implements cost reductions projects.
  • Responsible for supervision of all employees assigned to area of responsibility. Trains and evaluates new personnel in accordance with established department policies.
  • Makes daily check of labor reports to determine inefficiencies and takes immediate corrective action

Skills and Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees, calculate figures and amounts, apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, solve practical problems, and interpret a variety of instructions.
  • Must be PC literate. Basic knowledge of Word Processing, Database, Spreadsheet and Software applications. Ability to operate facsimile, photocopy machine, and electronic calculator.
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong computer skills including all Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent coaching and communication skills
  • Ability to track expenses and compile budget reports
  • Broad knowledge of production planning processes
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of machine controls and instrumentation
  • Able to deal with complex issues in a fast-paced setting
  • AA or equivalent experience; bachelor's degree preferred
Required Experience

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Bachelors degree (BA) or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school is preferred; or two (2) years of supervisory experience and two (2) in a manufacturing environment (extrusion preferred), and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with the Just-In-Time (JIT), Kanban, ISO 9000 implementation requirements, or other workflow concepts are preferred.
