Summary

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel. BPMI also delivers information technology and operational solutions to the Nuclear Navy, enabling them to fulfill their critical mission.

BPMI is seeking several mission driven individuals to help create and lead our newly formed Supplier Program and Operations Improvement team in Monroeville, PA location, just a few miles from Pittsburgh. This team will play a critical role in helping improve the supply base support of the Nuclear Navy's growing capacity and operational readiness needs.

The Supplier Program and Operations Improvement team has the overall responsibility to establish production assurance standards of planning, coordination, scheduling and controls; objectively assess the capability of supplier production performance relative to the standards; identify potential risks and vulnerabilities to schedule or quality performance; and assist internal equipment departments with their cognizant production contracts to assure all Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program delivery requirements including production performance and delivery are met or exceeded.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Development of methods, processes, tools, and training that will be used to assess suppliers on-going ability to successfully manage production.
  • Developing supplier prioritization schema and risk assessment tools to leverage best practices for production performance
  • Assist with the development of minimum required objective evidence from suppliers that demonstrates on-going production system health. This will include on-site assessments at BPMI suppliers.
  • Provide advice, guidance, information, and support to equipment departments regarding:
    • Assessment of risks and strengths of new and existing production contracts.
    • Ensuring known requirements for production assurance are present - skills, systems, processes, personnel and other resource capacity.
    • Providing unbiased, independent evaluation of project prospects for success.
    • Ensuring that production risks are collected, prioritized, and mitigated.
    • Resolution of issues with struggling suppliers
  • Executing the overall supplier oversight function in concert with the BPMI supplier quality assurance team.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related technical field (preferably Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering) from an accredited college or university. Twelve (12) or more years of completed education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements.
  • 3 years of Production or Operations Management experience in the manufacture of complex, highly engineered electrical or mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or equivalent Continuous Improvement work.
  • Ability to attain a Department of Energy Security Clearance

Preferred Job Requirements:
  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, MRP and MES systems and workflows.
  • Project management experience.
  • Supply Chain Management knowledge/experience.

  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Some travel required (estimated at 10-25%)
