What You Will Contribute:

This position is responsible for analyzing Marketing forecasts, developing manufacturing and production plans and implementing the required inventory control and planning methodologies within Badger Meter's Material Resource Planning (MRP) system. This position is responsible to apply the best supply chain management and logistic practices in a multi-facility production and distribution organization. Requires a complete and comprehensive understanding of the specific business systems that are currently implemented in the organization to support material planning, production scheduling, distribution and warehouse needs. An in-depth knowledge of production/inventory control, and forecasting processes and techniques along with a general understanding of other disciplines such as accounting, engineering, and information systems is required. Manages a team of 3 - 5 direct reports in the Milwaukee facility. Coordinates planning activities with other operations and distribution sites. Oversees the activities of direct reports for both long term and short term organizational goals and objectives as it relates to their roles in the planning and inventory management function. Works closely with other functional areas such as Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Manufacturing operations. Serves as a technical resource for other site planning teams. Requires strong data driven problem solving abilities and decision making in a fast paced, dynamic, and continuous improvement focused environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills needed, with the ability to influence and resolve issues across multiple levels of the organization.

Major Job Duties/Accountability:

  • Integral part of the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
  • Analyze the marketing forecast and develop the manufacturing plan which drives each plant's master schedule. Recommends capacity and inventory plans for specific product lines.
  • Maintains the forecast in the MRP system to support material procurement and production plans.
  • Monitors MRP systems to identify planning or production issues caused by incorrect data, systems issues, or dramatic swings in customer demands. Develops and implements corrective measures while working with the appropriate complementing organization functions such as customer service, engineering, and sales. Works closely with the Information System department to ensure MRP systems are functioning in the best manner possible to support Badger's business processes.
  • Supports the phase in and phase out of product families. Manages the elimination of excess, slow moving, or obsolete inventory.
  • Assists in establishing production and inventory control procedures, methodologies, and planning parameters to support organizational goals of maintaining proper inventory levels and on time deliveries at both the manufacturing sites and distribution warehouses.
  • Actively participate in development of strategic tools for management reporting of metrics as well as tactical tools to enable team members to control key inputs to these metrics. This requires SQL/ERP knowledge in some cases as well as leadership or participation in Continuous Improvement style cross functional process improvement/design activities.
  • Works with Bid Department, Sales, Customer Service, and production sites in reviewing customer contract delivery schedules and develops production schedules to support large customer projects.
  • Manages the daily and long term activities of the production planners. Continually work with the planners to grow and expand their skill set to provide an efficient, flexible, and effective planning team.
  • Primarily supports the Milwaukee Location, but will work with planning functions at other facilities to ensure consistency in the use of the MRP system throughout the Badger Meter Organization.
  • Supports the manufacturing facilities in developing the annual planned hours for budget, resource planning and product costing.
  • Ensures inventory accuracy to corporate goal by working with cost accounting and operations in the development, improvement, and execution of cycle count and physical inventory programs.
  • Participates in and serves as a resource for integration of acquisitions into Badger's ERP/MRP systems.
  • Accountable to the following Key Performance Metrics: On Time Delivery, Inventory Turns, and Inventory Accuracy.

Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of experience
  • Supervisory/Management preferred
  • Bachelor's degree from a four year college or related years of experience
  • APICS Certification - preferred
  • Experience with an MRP/ERP
  • Intermediate skills in SQL Systems preferred
  • Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing and manufacturing processes
