Survey Field Technician

What We're Looking For:
Barge Design Solutions is seeking a Survey Field Technician to join our Nashville, TN team. This position primarily assists field and/or office surveyors with data processing, traffic control, and operating survey instruments.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Gather field survey data using a variety of methods; sets up, adjust, and operate surveying various types of equipment, including electronic total station, data collector to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
  • Draft maps and drawings for review using CADD.
  • Conduct deed and other project research.
  • Perform field calculations of horizontal and vertical geometry.
  • Retrace or survey boundary lines under general supervision.
  • Perform calculations for construction stakeout.
  • Provide quality assurance by reviewing field data, reports, and maps.
  • Perform construction layout and staking surveys provides foresights and back sights.
  • Act as instrument operator for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
  • Perform field surveying for various land developments, roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
  • Prepare finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports.
  • Research existing record information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents; and maintain field data records.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Two-year degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Drafting, Surveying, or equivalent field/office experience. Other relevant combination education and/ or experience may also be considered.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans. Detail oriented and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret plats, deeds, easements and plans.
  • Familiarity of field surveying practices and procedures.
  • Valid driver's license and sufficient driving record.
  • Ability to work varying schedules.
  • Ability to travel at times, and overnight.
