The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is available as early as January 2024 and will remain open until filled.  

The successful applicant will be expected to establish a high-caliber research program that addresses important problems at the nexus of technology, biology, and/or health care while contributing substantially toward our renowned undergraduate and graduate educational programs. Applicants pursuing research in all fields of biomedical engineering are welcome, and especially encouraged to apply are those candidates whose research would enhance our department's strategic interests in biomechanics, tissue engineering, biomaterials, biomedical imaging, biomedical instrumentation, neuroengineering, and bioinformatics. 

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), founded in 1977, has a an ABET accredited undergraduate program with approximately 150 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students. BME is headquartered in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) on Tulane's picturesque uptown campus, with office, laboratory, and engineering facilities located on that campus. Under construction, the Steven and Jann Paul Hall will provide advanced laboratory and instructional space. The BME department also leads Tulane's Institute of Integrated Engineering for Health and Medicine (TI2EHM) on the downtown Health Sciences Campus. TI2EHM is dedicated to clinically-translational research and technology development, and provides BME faculty with exceptional laboratory and office space in close proximity with colleagues in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and the New Orleans Bioinnovation Center (NOBIC). Finally, BME administers an interdisciplinary Bioinnovation PhD program that is supported by an NIH T32 training grant. These initiatives position the department as a key participant in the new Tulane University Innovation Institute.

Tulane possesses a unique constellation of health-related research and clinical resources, including the Schools of Medicine and Public Health and Tropical Medicine, the National Primate Research Center, the Center for Computational Science, as well as the interdisciplinary organizations of the Neuroscience Program, Tulane Cancer Center, and an NIH T32-supported PhD program in Bioinnovation. The city of New Orleans has a burgeoning biotechnology entrepreneurial ecosystem. The city further boasts the co-location of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium, the LSU Health Sciences Center, the New Orleans Bioinnovation Center, and the newly-constructed University Medical Center and Veterans Administration Hospital.

Qualifications:

Applicants should posses a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely-related discipline. Applicants still in pursuit of a doctoral degree will be expected to have received the degree before their proposed start date. Applicants pursuing research in all fields of biomedical engineering are welcome, and especially encouraged to apply are those candidates whose research would enhance our department's strategic interests in biomechanics, tissue engineering, biomaterials, biomedical imaging, biomedical instrumentation, neuroengineering, and bioinformatics.
