About the Job

1-15 hours per week depending on area.

Work Tasks May Include:
    Work with faculty and program coordinators to provide additional learning activities for a specific course inside and/or outside of class. Must be available to attend lab sections they are providing learning assistance for. In some cases, preference is given to students who can attend most lab sectionsIn some cases, preference is given to students who can attend every course period for the section with which they are working.Attend initial training, possible ongoing formal training throughout the semester, and regular meetings with course faculty.Provide support to course faculty by assisting with leading laboratories, laboratory prep, and laboratory cleanup. There may also be some administrative tasks, such as grading of student work, entering scores into Canvas, and providing feedback on quizzes, exams, and assignments.Additional responsibilities will depend on course/area and faculty need and may include helping students in class as needed.Attend initial training, possible ongoing formal training throughout the semester, and regular meetings with course faculty.Highlight diversity on campus and be cognizant of ways to help enhance appreciation of diversity in the UMR community. Be a good University team member.

Required Skills:

  • UMR student in good standing
  • Previous successful completion of college-level coursework in the subject in which you wish to work

Preferred Skills:

  • Work Study preferred, but not required
  • Previous successful completion (B- or higher) at UMR of the course you wish to support
  • Ability to follow complex instructions
  • Ability to quickly learn new tasks and material
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
  • Demonstrates above average leadership skills and willingness to assume a leadership role in group settings
  • Above average oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-orientation with a high degree of accuracy
  • Good problem solving, prioritization skills, and maturity in judgment
