Underwriting Leader - Auto Dealership Program

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader to join our team as the Leader of our Automobile Dealership Program. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a diverse team of insurance professionals and driving the success of our program. You will need to have a deep knowledge of dealers open lot, garage keepers, garage keepers legal liability, property, auto, and umbrella insurance products. Additionally, you should have a strong understanding of emerging trends in the industry and the ability to adapt to a changing environment.

  • Take ownership of the profit and loss (P/L) for the program.
  • Develop pricing and selection standards that align with strategic objectives and financial goals.
  • Identify areas for improvement in coverage, pricing, structure, and distribution to enhance risk-taking and customer service.
  • Implement underwriting strategies to optimize underwriting profit and maintain underwriting guidelines.
  • Develop system requirements to streamline processes and meet carrier data requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, brokers, and insureds.
  • Attract and retain key talent through effective training, coaching, development, and succession planning.
  • Conduct marketing efforts, including travel to visit agent and broker clients.
  • Travel to Victor offices as needed.

We will count on you to:
  • Provide oversight on various lines of business, including Dealer's open lot, Garage, Garage Keepers Legal Liability, Property, and more.
  • Manage a territory and be responsible for the profit and loss of an existing book of business.
  • Engage with agency plant and develop new relationships to grow the book profitably.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource in the product line, both inside and outside the office.
  • Take a leadership role in underwriting review meetings.
  • Review and document program authority and engage carrier program manager for underwriting exceptions.
  • Assess exposure and assist in determining of appropriate rates, terms, and conditions.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with carriers and brokers.

What you need to have:
  • At least 5 years of industry-related experience.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience.
  • Previous experience in commercial auto and garage insurance.
  • Deep knowledge of developing trends in Auto Dealer lines of business.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Strong reputation within the market and a track record of results.
  • Advanced working knowledge of underwriting systems, rating platforms, and data & analytics tools.
  • P&C License required or ability to obtain within six months of hiring.
  • Strong analytical skills.

  • CPCU, AU, or ARM designations preferred.
