Introduction

Church World Service (CWS) is a not-for-profit organization working to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice around the world.   • Conducts intake appointments for new refugee cash assistance clients, which includes the following tasks:
    • Provide interpretation and translation services to refugee clients, including intakes and orientation.
    • Screen clients for eligible immigration status and collect documents for case file;
    • Complete intake paperwork, including all demographic information; and
    • Create an initial family self-sufficiency plan and budget.
    • Complete monthly eligibility appointments with cash assistance clients to determine continued eligibility; request cash assistance checks.
  • Connects clients to in-house support and makes referrals to external service providers as necessary to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Assists theresettlementsupervisorin preparing and documenting monthly maintenance assistance requests and distributes disbursements.
  • Assists client with accessing SNAP and Medicaid benefits. Report any problems to program supervisor and office director as appropriate

Case Management
  • Documents all services in clients’ case notes.
  • Records all financial transactions in clients’ financial tracking logs.
  • Assists the case managersin any assigned tasks to complete core program services.
  • Maintains updated family self-sufficiency plans in accordance with the program guidelines.


Common Duties:
  • Advocates on behalf of refugees, and refugee-serving voluntary agencies.
  • Keeps informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Represents the program relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in culturally appropriate manner.
  • Works varied hours, including occasional night and weekend work.


Qualifications:

Education:Associates Degree or higher preferred.

Experience: Previous work experience in refugee resettlement or other direct social services is preferred. Ability to provide culturally-sensitive service and a willingness to work with a diverse, non-English speaking clientele is required.Proficiency in Spanish,Ukrainian, Russian, or Haitian Creole required.
