Primary Purpose: The Preferred Communities – Intensive Case Management program supports vulnerable refugee groups who find themselves struggling to navigate U.S. systems and to be self-sufficient past the initial resettlement period. The position manages the program as well as conducts case management services for clients with identifiable vulnerabilities related to housing, employment, learning English, physical and mental health needs. Additionally, the position works with the local community to develop opportunities for clients to overcome barriers and become more independent.

Essential Duties:

  • Welcome and orient refugees to the community and helpful resources.
  • Provide intensive case management services for individuals from vulnerable refugee groups, including but not limited to single parents and women at risk, refugees experiencing social or psychological challenges, and other populations with physical disabilities or medical conditions.
  • Creates comprehensive self-sufficiency plan with client and work together to remove barriers to achieving their goals and becoming self-sufficient. Connect clients to in-house support and make referrals to external service providers. Identify support services that may assist clients in becoming self-sufficient, such as ESL, transportation, immigration services, and childcare.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with local service providers including physical and mental health providers, legal aid, DV shelter, and other relevant community resources.
  • Provide technical assistance and cultural competence training to providers to build their capacity to serve unique populations.
  • Maintain a digital casefile for each client on the program database in accordance with program guidelines. Regularly document interactions with clients and services provided. Complete all required reports.
  • Advocate on behalf of refugees and refugee-serving voluntary agencies.
  • Ensure clients understand their rights to language access and interpretation. Ensure interpretation is in compliance with federal and agency guidelines.
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.
  • Work varied hours, including some night and weekend work.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and suitable vehicle for transporting clients.

Qualifications:

Experience: Work with immigrant and refugee community required.

Education: High School required, college degree preferred.

Skills:
  • Language fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.

  • Close attention to detail is essential.

Special Requirements:
  • It is required to maintain full COVID Vaccination status and comply with all CDC guidelines.
  • This is an in-person position located in Winchester, VA.
  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications.
  • A valid driver’s license is also required, along with the ability to move furniture and donations. The candidate will be expected to transport clients in their own vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) and must have a reliable working car for this purpose.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is primarily in the office and community.
  • During busy times other duties may be assigned.
