Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: Job Description: Todevelop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help studentslearn the knowledge and skills of becoming a veterinary technician presented tothem in order for that student to become a positive member of the community.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Teach a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester for laboratory classes or fifteen (15) credit hours for non-laboratory classes or equivalent service. This may include evening and online instruction. These classes will be in the Veterinary Technology degree program as assigned.2. Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.3. Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives, and grading procedures for all courses.4. Advise and assist students in selecting appropriate academic courses.5. Post and keep office hours as per institutional standards.6. May serve as lead instructor.7. Implement the institutionally-recommended strategies for retention.8. Implement the assessment model.9. Serve on special projects and committees.10. Assist in the designing and revising of courses and curricula.11. Participate in staff development through formal course work, seminars, workshops, professional organizations, or professional literary material12. Assists in the designing/revising of courses and curricula.13. Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.14. Perform medical, surgical, and husbandry procedures on various domestic species within the limits of one's licensure.15. Maintain and revise official syllabi every semester according to OSU-OKC syllabi templates.16. Create and maintain documentation of student completion of essential skills.17. Advise and assist students in enrollment, student government association activities and job searches.18. Participate and support institutional activities when possible.19. Assist in the designing/revising of assessment plans/reports, and data management systems.20. Cooperate with departmental faculty in the selection of textbooks and teaching materials.21. Maintain proficiency in use of modern veterinary equipment/instrumentation.22. Assist in recruitment, public relations, correspondence, and marketing of the Veterinary Technology program.23. Assist with inventory and equipment maintenance.24. Serve as a role model in reinforcing the concept of the veterinary team.25. Embrace the team spirit in performance of job functions and relationships with colleagues.26. Travel to, perform in and work with employees of off-campus laboratory sites and conferences.27. Assist in transportation of students to off-campus laboratory sites and conferences.28. Participate in annual commencement and pinning ceremonies.29. Fulfill all faculty requirements as noted in the Faculty Handbook.30. Completes all mandatory training and participated in RPT recommended level of professional development each year.31. Licensure/Certification:
Licensed as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in the state of Oklahoma, orwilling to obtain said license if issued in a different state.
Training/Experience:
Must haveeducational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documentedspecialty
education/experienceto meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning
commission'spublication on Determining Qualified Faculty, and provide leadership in
academicdiscipline and/or degree program. Programs with discipline-specific external
accreditation mayhave more stringent training and experience requirements.
Applicants for the Veterinary TechnologyInstructor position must have 7 years' experience as a Doctor of VeterinaryMedicine with primary duties providing services in a clinical (public orprivate) setting. Teaching/instruction experience in a scientific field and ata post-secondary level is preferred. Candidates must have experience inhusbandry, medical and surgical procedures with domestic animals, foodproducing animals, and equines. Candidates mustalso possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license, be willing and able to drive auniversity owned vehicle to off-campus locations and be willing to transportstudents or other university approved passengers.
