Job Summary
Independent research involving mouse models to study the role of RNA processing in cardiac development and disease. Laboratory operations management, providing oversight and direction in addition to training students, postdoctoral research associates, and academic hourlies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research and interface with outside University laboratories in collaborative projects involving mouse models of cardiac disease. Use cutting-edge expertise in embryonic and adult cardiomyocyte biology to develop new projects in my laboratory.
  • Train and mentor all lab students, technicians, academic hourlies, and postdoc research associates in mouse genetics, which will allow us to build critical tools, including transgenic and knockout mice, for our studies to promote the goals of our grants.
  • Apply for external grants, and write manuscripts and reports.
  • Train personnel in lab protocol, experimentation methods, and project assignments.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, genetics, Biomedical Chemistry, or a related field; Minimum of five years of postdoctoral research experience in generating mouse models, primary cardiac cultures, and genetic engineering to elucidate molecular mechanisms that underlie human congenital heart defects; Research experience involving the characterization of cardiac function and pathology in genetically engineered mice models using RNA-seq and advanced imaging technologies.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in publishing high-impact research papers on advances in understanding the genetic basis of human disease; Minimum of five years of postdoctoral experience involving molecular characterization of genetically engineered mouse models harboring human congenital heart disease-causing mutations;

Successful candidates will have the following:
  • Determination and ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to supervise others and mentor students.
  • Exceptional organization, supervisory, and communications skills desired to provide daily leadership for a laboratory research team.
  • Strong experimentalist skills in studying both fetal and adult cardiac biology.
  • Extensive knowledge of studying the physiological roles of RNA-protein interactions in eukaryotic cells, structure-function studies
  • Strong experimentalist skills in polysome profiling, advanced microscopy, and CRISPR-based genome editing; Determination and the ability to work both independently and within a team are highly desired.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
