Job Description

We have an opening for a developing candidate interested in pursuing a career in the drinking water industry. The position is a rotational Internship with our Supply Operations department. This is a paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience, with potential to later apply to more advanced roles within water distribution, quality, and treatment.

The intern will work with three teams within our Supply Operations department: Water Quality, Groundwater Treatment & Distribution, and Surface Water Treatment.

A Water Service Rotational Intern works with and/or under the supervision of other Water Operators, Treatment Operators, Water Quality professionals, and the respective team leads. The Water Service Rotational Intern will shadow professional operators and perform a wide variety of duties and tasks, which are categorized below:

Water Quality
* Through training, develop understanding of water regulations and compliance
* Shadow Water Quality Samplers, lab technicians, and other professionals to understand the daily tasks and compliance needs of the Water Quality department
* Understand source protections and, if applicable, conduct watershed inspections under the supervision of the Manager of Water Quality and Regulatory & Enviro. Compliance Coordinator

Groundwater Treatment & Distribution
* Shadow water operators as they perform daily functions in pump stations, booster stations, and systems wells.
* Perform operational and maintenance duties under the direct supervision of a licensed water operator such as sample collection and analyzer calibration.

Surface Water Plant Operations
* Learn and put into practice basic plant processes for surface water treatment including: coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation/clarification, filtration and disinfection.
* Learn what compliance record keeping and computer process control functions are required on a daily basis.
* Learn about the State of Connecticut Operator Certification Program and the different levels of treatment classification.
* Perform various housekeeping tasks and maintenance, including servicing plant pumps and equipment.

The ideal candidate will be interested in drinking water treatment, biological and health sciences, civil and environmental engineering, hydrology, or chemistry. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Compensation Range

$ 18.00 - 21.00
