Position Summary

The Web Specialist (WS) will work under the supervision of the Web & Digital Experience Manager and is responsible for deploying web engagement technologies in support of university marketing and communications efforts. The position is expected to take on complex web projects with a high level of autonomy and will be responsible for the active maintenance and improvement of a select set of websites within the University's content management system (Drupal) as well as providing customer service, consultation and insights as a subject matter expert on an as needed basis.

The Web Specialist will often need to anticipate the needs of projects/initiatives and the department, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and show proactive leadership in planning to meet specified goals and deadlines designed to improve the effectiveness of the University's primary marketing tool-its website. The WS will need to be skilled in creating opportunities for collaboration and working with others to accomplish an objective, open to supporting additional digital marketing tools as needed/related to assigned areas, and have clear understanding of how web and other digital marketing tools fit into an integrated marketing and communications plan.

Essential Functions

  • Designing, creating and maintaining websites, forms, calendars, intranet content, maps and other web-based content as assigned.
  • Providing stakeholders with consultation regarding how best to deploy web content.
  • Collaborating with peers and stakeholders to complete responsibilities and assignments.
  • Defining basic project scopes and coordinating projects and with minimal oversight.
  • Creating analytics reports, evaluating outcomes of web efforts and making recommendations in collaboration with the Marketing Analytics Specialist.
  • Occasionally providing content support and coordination as needed for the University's mobile app, chat bot, events calendar and other web-based pieces of content.
  • Providing occasional supervision of contracted vendors or non-benefitted employees for completion of project/program related tasks as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • Experience working in digital marketing and providing analysis of outcomes as well as recommendations for continual improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience effectively setting priorities, achieving goals and measuring results
  • Demonstrated website coordination acumen and proficiency with one or more content management systems. Must have a supporting project portfolio.
  • Experience with collaboration across all levels and functions including with peers and leaders to effectively achieve objectives and lead.
  • Experience coordinating a variety of concurrent projects and production timelines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success in a highly matrixed environment with multiple constituents.
  • Able to integrate thinking from divergent points of view.
  • Ability to generate ideas and coordinate execution of these ideas.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to seeing projects to successful completion.
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills, along with the general ability to communicate clearly in oral, visual and written form.
  • Ability to vary communication tones and voice as appropriate to best leverage web as a marketing tool while ensuring continuity of brand voice and presence.
  • Working knowledge of data analytics and creating reports on outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of ADA compliance and best practices.
  • Experience creating content for the web in alignment with best practices.
  • Working knowledge of SEO/SEM best practices, trends and tools.
  • Experience with client relations or customer service.
  • Ability to be flexible with assignments and shifts in priorities.
  • Ability to understand, embrace and demonstrate a commitment to the University of Denver's vision and mission including the University's goals of inclusive excellence.
  • Experience building effective partnerships and collaborations with individuals and teams to advance work.
  • Willingness to learn new skills as the opportunities or the need arise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, as well as flexibility and the ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities along with a commitment to the highest standards of journalism, marketing and public relations.
  • Working knowledge of UX/UI best practices.
  • Working knowledge of how to test efforts to maximize effectiveness and utilize multivariant testing tools, such as CrazyEgg or Google Optimize.
  • Working knowledge of search tuning/SEM.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Plus 3 years of professional experience creating and maintaining websites using a content management system (CMS).
  • Proven experience creating content for web.
  • Experience applying web design and web marketing principles.
  • Experience using web analytics tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing website content via Drupal CMS
  • Strong communications skills
  • Experience in marketing or communications, preferably in higher education
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and/or JavaScript
  • Experience working with bulk email campaigns, marketing automation tools, managing content in apps
Working Environment
  • The successful incumbent must live or be willing to relocate to the Denver metro unless otherwise specified. The Division of Marketing & Communications has a flexible work arrangement with its employees, allowing for both community and culture building in-office and remote work from home.
  • Standard office environment: Activities are primarily performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; job may require limited, varying lengths of time and travel moderate distances to perform work
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate required to perform essential functions
  • Receives regular managerial review of objectives.
  • Some travel as well as occasional weekend or after-hours work will be required to fulfill duties.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 9.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
